It’s about collaborating to build an online presence setup that works toward your specific small business goals.
The first website I ever worked on was for my father’s pottery studio in 2006. One project became dozens and a career helping small businesses show up online with clarity.
After years working alongside designers and developers, I became a small business marketing specialist so I can deliver the whole package: strategy, design, and ongoing care. My approach is simple—build sites that are you-friendly, not designer-friendly. It’s your website, and it should work the way you do.

Jessica Bull, Founder
she/her/hers
Jessica founded Calathea Creative after a long career of freelancing in graphic design and web development for small businesses. Her work was inspired by her experiences supporting her father’s pottery studio in her teenage years—and witnessing the struggle so many small business owners have when it comes to marketing, website, and design needs. As a second generation small business owner, Jessica is devoted to supporting the small business community.
Jody Turpin
they/them/their
Jody Turpin joined the Calathea team in July 2024. They have four years experience with freelance web design and site management, including Shopify and Wordpress, and they are expanding their skill set into Wix and Squarespace. In addition to their experience with design and management, they have consistently worked in the fields of search quality evaluation and LLM evaluation. This has given them a deep appreciation for what makes the user experience great when navigating web pages, and they bring this skill to their design efforts.
Mark Johnson
he/him/his
Mark brings small-business grit from years inside a family-owned garage door repair company in Southeast Virginia, so he knows what local service pros actually need: clear messaging, fast responses, and a site that makes the phone ring. As a designer-developer, he builds fast, conversion-focused websites on WordPress and Squarespace, and he’s expanding into web apps with a strong UX/UI focus. Here at Calathea, he shares his insight into the industry and helps create highly effective custom websites and templates.
